In 2010, Dick Van Dyke said porpoises saved his life. “I’m not kidding,” he said.
The day started when he made a trip to his local beach for some surfing. He said he fell asleep in the sun on his surfboard and “I woke up out of sight of land,” the 84-year-old actor told Craig Ferguson on his TV chat show. “I started paddling with the swells and I started seeing fins swimming around me and I thought ‘I’m dead!’”
Van Dyke was wrong. “They turned out to be porpoises,” he said. “And they pushed me all the way to shore.”
Thank you porpoises, for saving a wonderful guy. Dick Van Dyke has starred in The Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Poppins among many others. In the last few years he has been a vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders.
