This wolf was hit by a car in the rural countryside of Israel. “By chance, he was spotted by some people who decided to step in and take him to the nearest vet. They named him Oliel.”
He had a broken leg and other serious injuries.
The veterinarians repaired his fractured leg and other wounds.
The surgery was a success. It took some months of healing before Oliel was was well and ready to be released.
Then the big day arrived. Time for Oliel to go back to the wild.
In Israel and Palestine, the Arabian wolf inhabits small areas of sparse oak woodlands, desert, and fenced off landmine fields. They are apex predators who hunt gazelles and wild boar and keep the jackal, fox, and hyena populations in balance. Wolves are absolutely key to maintaining a healthy ecosystem there.
