Contact lenses should be banned. Here’s why. Contact lenses suffocate the eye. At best, this leads to eyesight problems down the road. At worst, it leads to blindness: “The cornea (the transparent part of the eye that covers the pupil and iris and anterior chamber of the eye) is the only part of the body that gets its oxygen supply directly from the air, rather than the blood. This means that contact lenses which are made of plastic, suffocate the eye.
The body compensates for this by growing new blood vessels over the cornea to provide an oxygen supply; this is called corneal neovascularisation.
Left unchecked, the eye can become covered with blood vessels, and turn the cornea opaque. This can threaten sight- permanently. This condition can build up over several years – it’s only when it gets to an advanced stage that contacts wearers become aware of a problem, as that’s when it will cause red, irritated eyes, by which time it may be too late and these folks could be going blind.”
Some moron doctors think that eight hours of contact lense eyeball suffocation is safe, but this actually ages and damages the eye, setting the unfortunate wearer up for majorly compromised eyesight and health down the road. Also, a lot of folks wear their contact lenses much longer than the recommended time. See this article about a lady who was wearing hers all day long and almost went blind.
