The Asian Golden Cat is found in the Himalayas, across China, southeastern Asia, Malaysia, Nepal and Sumatra. They can be reddish, silverish, black, and brown; they have prominent stripes and spots on their faces. In some areas they are called “the leopard’s brother”.

This wild cat weighs 9-14 lbs (20-32.5 lbs) with a height of 58-83 cm (26-33 in). They prefer tropical and sub tropical forests, as well as dry deciduous forests. Asian Golden Cats are flexible habitat-wise and some live in shrub and grassland too.

Asian Golden Cats hunt a variety of prey, including rodents, amphibians, insects, birds, small reptiles, small ungulates (hoofed mammals), and sometimes larger creatures like wild pig, sambar deer, and domestic water buffalo calves. Asian Golden Cats can live up to 17 years.
